When I conducted my research, there were no serious crimes reported. The most concerning incident I found on the site was an assault that didn’t even occur in Corktown.

Am I saying Corktown is crime-free or that you should be oblivious to your surroundings?

Absolutely not.

I always recommend staying aware of your surroundings. However, I wouldn’t expect to get carjacked or robbed in Corktown. In other parts of Detroit, unfortunately, such incidents are more common. That said, anything in or around the financial district is generally safe.

There is also a noticeable increase in police presence in the area, which is reassuring and something I’m happy to see.

I was born in Detroit in the 1990s, and I can honestly say I’m impressed with the progress. Detroit, along with many of its surrounding neighborhoods, used to be rough and lacked desirable living conditions. Corktown’s transformation is a testament to the city’s resilience and growth.
